Donut Sprinkles Tricky Word Activity

Donut Sprinkles Tricky Word Activity

A donut sprinkles word work activity to encourage your little learners to practice their spellings! Everyone child loves donuts, don't they?

How do you use this Word Work activity?

'Sprinkle' different tricky words over the donut. Write different spellings, in different directions, in a variety of colours. The words will look like the sprinkles! Then colour in the donut glaze. In the end you should be finished with a tasty looking donut good enough to eat- and learn from! I recommend using gel pens, scented pens, glitter pens - anything extra that can encourage your little one to practise spelling and make the experience as fun as possible! Display their finished picture so that they can see their spellings regularly.

This activity can be used for a variety of different ages/abilities as you can select the spellings to practice. Initially, I recommend having the words written out for them to access as they practice the spelling.

Why should you use Word Work activities?

When your little learners write their spelling repeatedly and frequently, it can help with the memorization of those spellings. This is particularly important for tricky words, which cannot be easily segmented with phonics (broken down into sounds). Word work tasks are a method to support spelling practice and should be used alongside other methods.
